Director Statement
Most of my work is informed by memory. I usually take bits and flashes of memories from childhood and expand and build upon them in my scripts. “Toasted” comes from such memory, however, I chose this time to make the film almost episodic...like a true memory. I wanted to focus on one moment in a boy's life when his frustration level begins to build and one moment in a father's life when he begins to lose touch with his son. In a sense, this is the beginning of a coming of age story. I wanted the audience to have the sense that after this small incident, nothing would be the same between father and son.
