and edited by the Elektrik Zoo, this film was shot, recorded and
directed by the participants of the New Orleans Video Access
Center's 2009 Teen Camp: Documentary Filmmaking Edition. Commissioned by Operation REACH and mentored by the Elektrik Zoo, seven teenagers were charged with shooting a five-minute documentary. The goal of that film, as laid out in the brief, was to inspire young men and women in New Orleans and beyond to service. The Gulfsouth Youth Action Corps (GYAC), a program of Operation REACH, Inc. is part of the national AmeriCorps network. GYAC members have joined Americans in service across the country as part of the United We Serve initiative. GYAC is made possible by support from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the Foundation for the Mid South and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. On August 25th, 2009, the Operation Reach documentary was featured on the United We Serve website and YouTube Channel. Launched by President Obama in June of 2009, United We Serve is a government initiative that promotes the idea of service as a way of life for all Americans. |
