Director Statement
New Orleans has a strange tendency to change as the sun goes down. We wanted to capture that sense of the otherworldliness that descends upon the city at night. We consciously avoided the stereotypical shots of New Orleans, favoring old landmarks like the Circle Food Store and Village Square in Chalmette as well as anonymous cityscapes. It's a dark vision of an abandoned city. Yet, in this cold desolate land, there is a light, and it is seeking affirmation from, first, the old man watching television, then the sleeping boy, and, finally, from Little Baby Eyes. Both the light and Little Baby Eyes are part of the night world of New Orleans. When the sun rises, there is no place for them. Technical Shot on stills using a compact camera and assembled in Final Cut Pro to create movement. Each still took up to 30 seconds to process during the shoot. Light effects were created with Dollar General flashlights and an LCD light from Walmart.
